Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers speaks at a press conference following a 6-0 win over the Atlanta Braves in Game 1 of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on October 4, 2018.

In this Reuters photo from USA Today Sports, Ryu Hyun-jin of the Los Angeles Dodgers pumps his fist after striking out Ozzie Albies to end the top of the seventh inning in Game 1 of the National League Division Series at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on October 4, 2018.

Ryu twirled seven shutout innings of four-hit ball against the Atlanta Braves and helped the Dodgers to a 6-0 win to open the National League Division Series (NLDS) at Dodger Stadium on Thursday.

The Dodgers then added another run in the fifth inning on a homer by Yasmani Grandal, his first of the postseason. If they can not solve Kershaw then an 0-2 hole stares them in the face with needing to win three straight elimination games to advances. The Braves are 13-11 in Sanchez's starts this year. Sanchez has given up two earned runs or fewer in six of his last seven starts and is 2-4 with a 2.79 ERA in the postseason.

The Dodgers acquired Manny Machado for one reason and one reason only: to compete for a World Series. The defending NL champions actually were outhit 6-5 by Atlanta, but the Braves only got singles. Going back to his start in Game 7 of the World Series a year ago, Kershaw has now pitched 13 straight scoreless innings in the postseason.

It was not easy though, the Dodgers were as far as nine games out of first place after losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 9th.

Given the offense's lack of firepower, that 3-0 deficit must have seemed like a 10-run hole to Braves fans; and in some ways, it might have rung true. "There was a lot of soft contact", Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. He only struck out one hitter (Nick Markakis looking on a lovely curveball to end the first with Acuna standing on third) through seven incredibly efficient innings (73 pitches).

Los Angeles took down the Braves behind a superb performance from pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu and home runs from Joc Pederson, Kike Hernandez and Max Muncy on Thursday.

With two outs, Foltynewicz hit Pederson and walked Justin Turner before Muncy sent a 1-0 pitch over the wall in center, making it 4-0. "But, you know, it was just a situation there you get behind against a guy like that, we were just trying to try and stop the bleeding there a little bit".

The 21-year-old Albies was 1 for 4 and 24-year-old Johan Camargo was hitless in four tries.

Out of the last sixth seasons, this has been the most turbulent one.

With runners on first and second, D.J. LeMahieu hit a grounder that eluded shortstop Orlando Arcia and Nolan Arenado produced a sacrifice fly that knotted the score at 2-2. "I think that's the biggest thing".

The Dodgers kept their lineup intact in facing their second straight right-hander. "But at the end, I don't want to put that impression in my mind".
