"We have set a target of increasing trade turnover to $30 billion. and increasing investments to $15 billion by 2025", Putin said during a press conference with Modi on Friday. "India gives the highest priority to ties with Russian Federation, in fact in a changing world, our ties have become more important", Modi said.

He will also interact with a group of talented children and address an India-Russia business meet.

The two countries have mutual benefits in supporting Afghanistan, the struggle against terrorism, Indo-Pacific events and climate change, the prime minister said. "We have agreed to continue cooperation to these global organisations", PM added. The S-400 deliveries are expected to begin in two years.

Alluding to the fact that CAATSA is only a way to grab larger part of the Indian defence pie, Ambassador Trigunayat said, "S-400 is essential for us".

Deputy Director of the Asia Programme and South Asia senior associate, The Wilson Centre, Michael Kugelman tells OneIndia that Putin visit itself will not affect US-India ties in a big way. He also invited Modi to Vladivostok as the main guest of the Economic Forum in September 2019.

The two countries also signed memoranda of understanding related to railways, space and nuclear energy.

The deal came in the wake of the USA urging its allies to forgo transactions with Russia, warning that the S-400 missile defence system that India meant to buy was a focus area for it to implement punitive sanctions against a nation undertaking significant business deals with the Russians.

India wants to procure the long-range missile systems to tighten its air defence mechanism, particularly along the almost 4,000-km-long Sino-India border. It can be deployed within five minutes, and is capable of firing three types of missiles to create a layered defence, according to News18. In the Russian military, two batteries make up a S-400 battalion (also known as a S-400 division), whereas a S-400 regiment consists of two battalions.

Earlier, In a joint statement issued after the talks both sides expressed satisfaction at the significant progress made on the ongoing projects of military technical cooperation. Improved S-300 air defense systems such as the S-300PMU-2 Favorite ... can purportedly also fire the 9M96E and 9M96E2.

The S-400 is an upgraded version of the S-300 systems, which has been in service in Russian Federation since 2007.

Upgrades in arms systems "including the S-400 air and missile defense system" would be a particular focus for CAATSA, a US State Department spokesperson was quoted as saying by India s PTI news agency.

When asked, a government source rejected the United States statement, saying that the S-400 missile system deal was taken in the "national interest".
