"Limiting global warming to 1.5°C compared with 2°C would reduce challenging impacts on ecosystems, human health and well-being, making it easier to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals", said Priyardarshi Shukla, co-chair of another IPCC working group.
"With more than 6,000 scientific references cited and the dedicated contribution of thousands of expert and government reviewers worldwide, this important report testifies to the breadth and policyrelevance of the IPCC", said Hoesung Lee, Chair of the IPCC.

The UN report warns the most serious impacts of climate change could arrive as early as 2030 if carbon emissions aren't significantly reduced.
Warming of 2C above pre-industrial levels had widely been thought of as the threshold beyond which risky climate change will occur, but vulnerable countries such as low-lying island states warn rises above 1.5C will threaten their survival. However, the world has already warmed about 1 deg C since pre-industrial times. "What we've done is said what the world needs to do", Imperial College London's Jim Skea, cochair of the IPCC panel, said at a press conference.
"It's telling us we need to reverse emissions trends and turn the world economy on a dime", Myles Allen, an Oxford University climate scientist and an author of the report, toldThe New York Times. Global net emissions of carbon dioxide would need to fall by 45 per cent from 2010 levels by 2030 and reach "net zero" around 2050.
Limiting the temperature rise to 1.5 °C could also protect several hundred million people, including those living in some of the least developed countries, from slipping into poverty and disadvantage by 2050 due to climate-related risks, as would be the case under the 2°C scenario.
"The overarching context of this report is this: human influence has become a principal agent of change on the planet", adding that "the spread of fossil-fuel-based material consumption and changing lifestyles is a major driver of global resource use, and the main contributor to rising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions".
This target was long considered the threshold for the most unsafe effects of climate change, including the mass destruction of coral reefs, widespread food shortages, destructive wildfires and coastal flooding.
According to him, settling for two degrees would be a death sentence for people in many parts of Africa."The faster governments embrace the renewable energy revolution and move to protect communities at risk, the more lives and livelihoods that will be spared."A hotter Africa is a hungrier Africa", he said".
