The Sandwich Spot has great food named after tennis players

I’m a big fan of sandwiches, and I found my new favorite place, which is saying a lot for me.

The Sandwich Spot in Palm Springs has a great array of sandwiches, many named after something or someone with a local tie. For instance, there’s The Gene Autry, The Copacabana (for Barry Mannilow), The Thighmaster (Suzanne Sommers), The Sunny and Share (get it?), The Dinah (I think you know her), The Chairman of the Board (Frank Sinatra), and Thanks for the Memories (Bob Hope).

Being avid tennis fans, the owners named three sandwiches for tennis superstars, who regularly appear at the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. Oh, and Indian Wells also has a sandwich.

Here are the sandwiches.

The Federer has warm turkey, Proschiutto, avocado and Swiss cheese.

The DjokovicDSCN8890

The Djokovic is similar to the Federer. It has warm turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese and avocado.

The Rafa20150318_165847

The Rafa has warm roast beef, bacon, barbeque sauce and cheddar cheese.

All three sandwiches are pictured with a Dutch Crunch role, which is the most popular bread and with good reason.

All specialty sandwiches are $7.99. You can add chips and a drink and the price will go up to a little over $10.

The Sandwich Spot is tucked away at 240 N. Palm Canyon Road in Palm Springs. For the locals, it’s behind Hair of the Dog. It’s open from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. For more information, go to

And if you would like to vote for your favorite sandwich, go to the Pocial poll below. It is also doubling for a “Who do you think will win the US Open title” poll. Sorry, The Sandwich Spot doesn’t have anything named after Andy Murray or any other contender.
