Coachella released its lineup particularly early, and my initial thoughts are that it’s underwhelming.
Well, for me.
The major headline is the Guns N Roses for their long-awaited reunion. I’m a huge GNR fan, but I’m leery of the reunion shows since OutKast. And since this is GNR’s kick off to their reunion tour, there might be some rust.
That’s not to say seeing Axel Rose and Slash together won’t give me goosebumps.
Here’s some other thoughts.
Calvin Harris: So I’m not much into EDM, but Harris is a gigantic star. And at some point, an EDM act needed to be the headliner. EDM owned the Sahara tent, and various acts have killed it on the main stage, so it was only a matter of time. But I admit that I was thinking, is EDM taking over Coachella? And why? There’s the Electric Daisy Carnival, so why sacrifice the alternative I like so much? And Harris has a residency in Las Vegas.
Ice Cube: I thought we would get a NWA reunion after the success of “Straight Outta Compton.” Getting Ice Cube is great however, and maybe the rest of the group will make an appearance.
My hit list: Matt and Kim, Chvrches, Of Monsters and Men, Guns N’ Roses, the 1975, Robert DeLong, Cold War Kids, Ice Cube, Ellie Goulding, The Arcs, Miike Snow, Grimes, Gary Clark Jr., Nathaniel Ratecliff, and Joywave.
